 Each artist has his own style and preferences, but for custom assignments, is also adaptable. The purpose of custom work is to accomplish the objectives and reflect the personality of the customer.
One of the advantages of hiring an illustrator is that the artist can convey your message with original art. Commissioned work belongs to you and makes your advertisment unique and memorable. The artist retains only the right to show the work as part of a portfolio.
LOGOS
The object of a logo is to convey the spirit of a company or organization elegantly and clearly in a square inch or two of space. The tendency is to simplify as the well-known companies are now represented by as little as a single letter: hardly enough for most businesses. The choice of font, color, text, design, and content are all present in that square inch.
For a business that belongs to one person, a portrait, reduced to a minimal pen and ink sketch or silhouette, is a nice touch. I can also do figures or groups. A business card includes the logo, contact information, and an optional motto or catch phrase that contributes to your image.
BROCHURES
Brochures, flyers, and newsletters are all representations of a business in one to four pages. A major factor is cost: not only the cost of the artwork, design, and layout, but the cost of printing. Color glossies are a luxury to the artist as well as the company being represented, and if you choose this format, my job is easier and more fun, but it is also a challenge to produce a less expensive alternative in black and white, or in a new format using black and one or two other colors, an option offered by many printers.
WEBPAGES
The newest and most exciting form of communication is the web. The possibilities in this medium are greater than any other type of advertising, and the field is moving forward rapidly both in the development of capabilities and number of people online. This is a comparatively inexpensive and flexible form of advertising, content can be changed at the keyboard at any time. Customers, employees, students, other businesses, the general public can be reached worldwide and locally, and the web is interactive. You will receive a response. The same graphics used on other publications can be used on a webpage, and your internet address will appear on your business cards and other advertisements, directing your customers to updated and detailed information.
COPYWRITING
Advertising copy may be provided by the customer or written by me. The best outcome will probably be a joint effort. I do proofreading of all copy.
HTML TUTORING
Graphic arts enhance the communication between the advertiser and his customer, but because of the accessibility of the internet, the personal input by the owner of a business and/or his employees often makes the difference between a competent webpage and an outstanding website. To this end I offer tutoring in basic html for both personal and business pages.
PRODUCT ILLUSTRATION
An artist's rendering can often portray a product with greater clarity and attractiveness than a photograph. The artist works in a variety of media including pen and ink, colored pencil, pastels, and computer illustration.
